Layered Lace Skirt DIY

If you're anything like me, you've got a huge stash of scrap fabric that hasn't seen any lovin' in a long time. Every project seems to have some materials left over, but most of the time it's not enough to make something else. I think one of the best projects is using supplies and materials you already have. Here's how I did it:

supplies: scrap fabrics, lace trim, button.
pantry supplies: sewing machine, scissors.

Begin by measuring a piece of trim two inches wider than your waist (or hips if you'd rather the skirt hang on your hips than your waist). Lay out the trim, and pin the fabrics onto the trim in a scattered pattern. Once you have the fabrics in the order you'd like, sew the fabrics in place. I found it best to layer the large pieces as the base so that the skirt won't split open, and then add the smaller pieces of fabric on top, creating a fun, layered look. Next, place another layer of trim on top and stitch it in place, covering all of the fabric hems. Lastly, sew a button onto the end of the trim, and hand stitch a button hole onto the back of the opposite end of trim.
