I found this chair at a local thrift shop for a few bucks last week. It was so dirty and tattered, but I knew it just needed a little bit of lovin' and it would look brand new. Here's what I did:
This chair began with a wicker seat cover that was all warped and cracking, so I began by cutting out the seat. Next, take multiple pieces of fabric, and cut them into long strips. The length of the strips will depend on the size of the seat and how long you want the ends to hang off in the end. Once you've cut all of the fabric, begin tying them tightly to the chair from one end to the other, filling the entire seat with fabric strips from side to side. Then, begin adding strips of fabric from front to back, intertwining between each strip of fabric going side to side. When threading the strips through, make sure each strip is threaded under the opposite strip of the one before. This will create a lattice pattern and give the seat extra strength. Lastly, once you've filled both sides with strips of fabrics, cut off the extra fabric on the front and back, and tie the ends of the strips on the sides in knots.
This chair is going to be a part of an outside garden in our new home holding some pretty plants and bringing some color to the backyard. Right now I'm in full makeover mode with the idea of our new home in mind. Let the home projects begin!
