Minimalist.

Last night we slept on the roof again in honor of our dear pal's birthday. It was splendid weather with a slight breeze and clear skies. When we awoke, it was no longer clear, but an overcast of nothing but bright, pale grey. We didn't give it much thought and spent the rest of the morning reading, when all of a sudden a huge wall cloud appeared with extremely fast winds. Our power went out, and seconds later our minds began to play tricks on us. We examined the sky and thought a group of clouds looked a bit odd, almost swirling. Our local area has been hit with some devastating tornadoes in the past, so we didn't want to take a chance, and ran to a local shop to hide in the basement. I was shaking uncontrollably until I snapped out of it and told myself to pull it together. It was such an odd, surreal feeling. Even with past storms, I've never really been frightened, but this all seemed so fast, so uncontrollable, so dangerous. After about thirty minutes it  stopped, making it just a dramatic, fast passing storm; which we were very thankful for.

I'd always subconsciously told myself if something of the sort happened, I would grab my camera and hard drive with all my photos on it. But at that moment I didn't give it a passing thought. I thought about it later and was surprised and a bit embarrassed that before it seemed that would be my biggest concern. But no, all I wanted to do was make sure Josh, myself, and my neighbors were out of harm's way. All this to say, I was reminded the sweet lesson that material things can hold such little value in this world.

On a lighter note, I've realized I've become quite a minimalist when it comes to my attire. I really admire gals who can add layer upon layer, and it always compliment each individual piece. When I picked out this outfit, I kept thinking it should have something else.. shouldn't it? But alas, I kept to my simple ways. I just couldn't bare to drown out this stunning ring and pretty patterned skirt. I'll get better at layering one of these days. ;)
