Vase Makeover Inspiration

I firmly believe in recycling what you already have, taking the old and turning it new. With today's society, it's easy to get caught up in all the new trends going around, and it can easily make you feel like your home, closet, and personal style is outdated; causing us to run to the store to buy the next new thing. I don't know about you, but I just can't get myself to splurge on hardly anything; which I'd like to think is a good "problem" to have. This post isn't going to show you how to paint a vase, don't worry, ;) but maybe just remind you to use what you already have, buy something used or on clearance and give it a whole new look. Once you start making this mindset a habit, you won't go into any store without thinking, "Can I 'DIY' that?"

I browsed online and found similar vases to these, all together averaging a total between $45-$90. Instead, I purchased these for a total of $6 at the thrift store and gave them a new look with some craft paint I already had.

From left to right:
1. Painted a base coat of gold. Once dry, placed random strips of masking tape all over. Painted three coats of white paint, waited for it dry and removed the tape.
2. Repainted the entire vase white, then free handed a gold coat around the rim.
3. Stuck a piece of masking tape around the middle of the base. Painted above the tape gold and below the tape white. Once it was dried, I removed the tape, leaving a clear strip separating the two colors.

What have you given a makeover to lately?
