Fishtail Bun Hair Tutorial

This hairstyle is simple, but can be worn for multiple occasions. For this look, my friend Madison styled a loose fishtail bun and paired it with a simple sweater and jeans. You could easily tame the loose ends a bit more, add some floral pieces or a gypsy crown, and wear it to something nicer like a wedding or holiday party. Take a look below at how we created this look.

//1. Begin with your hair down and natural. If your hair is thin, add some texture by lighting teasing the underneath side. //2. Then, create a fishtail braid going to the side, and secure it with a hair band. //3. Once the braid is complete, wrap the fishtail into a coil shape, pinning in place. Tuck the end of the braid with the hair band into the middle of the bun, and pin it so that it's no longer visible. //4. Finish by pinning any loose ends that you want to feel more secure.

What's your favorite way to style the fishtail braid?

p.s. Congratulations, April!

  8. I like fishtail braids, but curly hair does not like fishtail braids. I call mine the birds nest bun instead! Thank you for the bun inspiration though!

  25. So that is what they call the "fishhair". I think it's just beautiful. I give credit to the inventor of it and props to your guys for replicating it. Great job! I'm going to get my adelaide hair salons to do this one as well because I'm sure that it will be a huge hit with the teens.
