Thursday's Thoughts + Stripes & Florals

(^laughing at Josh for yelling at the camera when he couldn't get it focus on the necklace. ;) Oh so very cute.)

Last week I was able to attend a women's conference where we heard from the lovely Jennifer Beckham. She spoke about her own life journey and how her "life scars" are not something to be ashamed of, but something to share with the world in hope that it might bring encouragement and hope into someone else's life. This really resonated with me and I've been trying to apply it ever since. We all have scars, pain, and heartache in our past. Or maybe, you're going through something that is a current heartache. Sometimes we go through life with"a smile on our face and a hole in our heart," putting on a facade that our life is perfect. I've found in my own life that when we put off the vibe that our life is picture perfect, we become unapproachable to those who need us most. There are girls going through the exact same thing that you once went through or what you're currently facing. Instead of  hiding behind the mask of perfection, how much more beautiful is it to unite together to encourage, uplift, and shower love on one another as we fight insecurities, trials, and heartache together?

Something that goes much more in depth than my little ramble is Jennifer's book called, 'Get Over Yourself'. I couldn't keep this book all to myself, so I wanted to share my copy with one of you. This isn't a giveaway per say, in the sense that I don't want you to do anything or visit any site, but simply in a comment just note that you would like the book. I have two copies that I would love to pass on to a couple of gals who truly feel like they would like to read this; or even a friend that would! If anyone is interested, I'll choose two random people and send it your way (shipping cost on me, of course!) Anyway, this may all seem a tad strange to you, but my greatest passion in life is to be an encouragement to girls and women I have the privilege to encounter with. And what greater way to become acquainted with gals all across the world than through blogging!

I'm off to finish editing an engagement shoot, then a movie date with my love. I hope your Thursday has been extra sweet.

p.s. The pretty necklace you see is from Deuce Fashion, who is currently hosting a giveaway on Sincerely, Kinsey! Take a look here if you haven't already entered.

Outfit details: shirt & shorts, second hand store. Shoes & belt, thrifted. necklace, c/o Deuce Fashion

My sweet, sweet friend noted in a comment that you can find and download the message from that evening here! Please do, I think you would love to hear it.

  2. Oh my gosh Kinsey! What I would do to have been able to listen to Jennifer speak. I strive to speak from my heart and be as raw and open as possible in my posts...for the hope it helps one person! I am currently going thru a nasty divorce and I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to take in her words. Thanks for offering this little giveaway! Fingers crossed. MUCH love! xo

  4. Your post hit on something in me- the idea that we, as women, often fake it til we make it. It's exhausting, but a cycle that is hard to break. I am really inspired by your words and interested in this book. I'd love to receive a copy.

  5. Wow that sounds like a really uplifting read. I feel like it addresses issues that all women face. I definitely let my insecurities keep me from experiencing true freedom. I wouldn't mind owning a copy :)

  6. This book sounds like something a lot of us need to hear. As a mentor for high school and junior high girls, I would love to use this book as a way to help them through their challenges now instead of years down the road when most of us finally face them. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Kinsey you are so beautiful inside and out....and I must say that it is your genuine love for people that has made you one of my favorite blogs to follow! The book sounds incredible, and it's such a good reminder that nobody's perfect, and that we as women need to come together, share honestly in each other's lives and encourage each other daily!

  11. I've been having such a rough week and this post has made me feel so much better, thank you :) I'm no good at hiding when something is bothering me an I've always felt like this is a weakness, and guilty at sharing my upsets with others. I also try to avoid writing sad posts on my blog because I think no one wants to read that sort of thing - but I wrote it anyway last night and just doing that made me feel better. But it's hard to get over the guilt of sharing your sadnesses with others, no one wants to bring people down with them.

  12. Such a lovely post - I know a lot about past scars and hard times, and I love seeing and reading about people, who want to be supportive of girls and boys going through rough patches in life. Someday I want to be able to let others reach out to me as well.
I would love to recieve the book, it sounds so good!

  13. Lately, I've been musing on the same topic. It is so important for women to connect and be a resource to one another, through all stages of life. As I get older, my female relationships are becoming such a living, breathing guiding force in my life, and I am grateful daily that I've played a role in sustaining them.

The book sounds inspiring and insightful; I'd love a copy! xxx, j

  16. Sounds amazing. Women who lift each other up are so rare compared to the destructive gossip and putting down we ladies do. After going through a lot of this lately, I for sure will be reading that book!

  21. I would love to have this book for my 17 year old niece. She went through a horrible experience and it just now finished with a prison sentence for another person. Would love for her to pick up the pieces and move on. Is it that type of book?

  22. You're so sweet! This post is my favorite. I too share your passion in wanting to inspire and encourage young girls to love who they are. I couldn't agree more that our testimony is of such great importance. At the time of my pain and struggle I did not share this sentiment, but now I am so thankful I came out a stronger woman so I could encourage those facing the same thing. Thanks Kinsey, for reminding me of that this morning. You're such a beautiful person! Happy I get to know you! :)

  24. I just wanted to say that I LOVED her at the women's rally! It was something that was much needed for me. This makes me even more excited to get started on her book! And I also just wanted to let all of the girls who didn't get to go know that you can go here: http://resources.jamesriver.org/index.cfm/product/1586_35/ever-after---jennifer-beckham.cfm?CFID=608585&CFTOKEN=50924187 and downloan or even buy a cd or dvd of it. :)

PS- you are absolutely beautiful inside and out, Kinsey. You're truly an inspiration. :) Love ya girl!

  25. Hi Kinsey!
This book seems to offer so much. I seem to stroll through life feeling so loved, and then one day (yesterday) thoughts of depression slip in and I struggle to find victory over the flow of negative thoughts! Eventually I always come back out of it, but I don't like the way it makes me feel during, when I know that it's definitely not of God, you know? Anyway, Jennifer seems like she's got something - I'd love to hear it! :)
Thanks for your blog, you're treasured.

  32. What a timely post. I've had an emotionally draining week in every aspect of my life that's left me feeling raw and rough on the inside, but needing to keep a calm and smooth presentation on the outside. We grow the most in times of struggle and loss, and sometimes our struggles are put in front of us to give us experiences to share and help others. I'll definitely check out her book. Thanks!
